FED: Garrett announces environmental approval for Gorgon project

CANBERRA, Aug 26 AAP - Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett has given the go-ahead
to the multi-billion dollar Gorgon LNG project.

The yet-to-be developed project off the West Australian coast - that will create 6,000
jobs at its peak - will underpin a massive expansion of liquefied natural gas (LNG) production
across Australia.

Joint venture partners Chevron, Shell and ExxonMobil have signed off on a $50 billion
contract to supply gas to PetroChina during the next 20 years.
