Qld: Man saves dog from fast flowing water, winched to safety

A Queensland man who jumped into fast flowing water below a dam wall to save his dog
has been rescued by helicopter .. after spending the night on a rocky outcrop.

Emergency services says the man's wife raised the alarm at about 10.30 (AEST) last
night .. after he became stranded on rocks at Burdekin Falls Dam at Ravenswood .. south
of Townsville.

The 22-year-old man jumped into the fast flowing water to save his dog .. and the pair
became stranded on an outcrop about 200 metres below the dam wall.

Conditions were too dangerous to reach them last night .. so emergency teams managed
to get the man a blanket and food.

A helicopter has winched the man and his dog to safety .. uninjured .. around 6.30 this morning.
