QLD:Desal was right for us: Qld minister

The Queensland government has taken issue with a Productivity Commission report ..

which criticises governments for pumping money into costly desalination plants.

The draft Commission report has found Australia's costly and inefficient urban water
sector desperately needs a shake-up .. estimating recent restrictions have cost consumers
more than one-billion dollars per year.

Queensland Water Minister STEPHEN ROBERTSON says his government has done the right
thing by investing in desalination infrastructure.

He's told the ABC .. if it hadn't been for the desalination plant .. southeast Queenslanders
would've been boiling water for weeks .. because of damage to treatment plants during
the floods.
