Aust stocks open softer, ignore Wall St gains rpt

The Australian sharemarket opened in negative territory this morning, ignoring a stronger
session on Wall Street on Friday night, as pre-Christmas activity set in.

The benchmark all ordinaries index was down 5.9 points to 3132.2 by 10.28 am (AEDT).

On Friday, a resources rally helped put the all ords within seven points of its all-time
high of 3145.2 set on April 27.

This morning, the all resources index was up 4.6 points to 1410.1 by 10.28 am.

But the all industrials index had slipped 15.7 points to 5366.9.
