Vic: Stars say thanks for awards = 5
Winner of the Most Outstanding News Reporter award, the ABC's Geoff Thompson, toldhow a cameraman and three fellow journalists were shot dead by Afghani soldiers whilehe was reporting in the area.
Mr Thompson paid tribute to Harry Burton, 32, an Australian television cameraman workingfor Reuters.
"I don't know how I survived, I guess I was lucky," he said.
"Afghanistan's a long way from here," he said while on stage holding his Logie.
"I want to thank Harry Burton, the Reuters cameraman, for his tragically short stintin Afghanistan and the work he has done across South East Asia in the last three years,"
he said.
"I don't know where he is now, but I know that wherever he is he is trying to get thefirst pictures out.
"You never know, it might even get a run on the commercial networks."
